Cameron please for the love of God man...
Please stop pretending and implying in your posts that these specific two organizations (and Cleveland for that matter) are "anti analytics." It's flat out objectively, provably, 100% false and wildly ignorant.
Tampa and Milwaukee are some of the biggest employers of analytics, R&D, and performance science in the league. Tampa THE largest hub for "analytics" in the league. Source linked in replies.
But most importantly, PLEASEEEE stop associating the term "analytics" with one philosophy of baseball! I have no idea why more people in baseball media or on this app don't set the distinction more often:
Analytics = insight from data
"Analytics" ≠ one specific hitting/pitching philosophy
"Analytics" ≠ home runs good, contact bad
"Analytics" ≠ contact good, home runs bad
Analytics is literally just getting insight from data. We have lots and lots of it now from the rapid improvement in technology over the years. Hawkeye cameras allow us to track things (especially on the non-proprietary, public side of things) that were unimaginable in the past. We have access to a growing, vast volume of data that was not available before this technology existed.
Analytics is literally just using this information to draw insights.
This consists of:
- Tampa optimizing a lineup that works well on the Trop turf
- Tampa optimizing pitch shapes that work well in their dome
- Milwaukee's projection systems and scouting department that has allowed them to derive as much value from the IFA market as they have over the years
- and much much more
Analytics *COULD* lead one to believe more contact is needed
Analytics *COULD* lead one to believe more pop is needed
There is no one, cookie cutter, one size fit-all philosophy that "analytics" subscribes you to. It is quite literally just the means of arriving at said philosophy and the evidence you use to prop that philosophy up.
