Macron sent amphibious forces to the Gulf,-remained at sea-, and then started pulling back, but he never gave up on the idea. The British are also inclined to go along with Macron in some form. Despite all that, will this actually draw these countries in, given that even Trump did not want to get involved on this other front? The Saudis will probably be able to stitch something together with a European force, but I don’t see these forces having the means to change the conflict against the Houthis, at least not based on what is being announced now and what is likely to be announced shortly. He was telling the world that we’ll just take land and everything is ours, and the people of that land are worthless. That’s what he said effectively about Venezuela. They’ve lost the war, so they have nothing. So his speech—I don’t think it’s going to help build any friendships with other countries. It will create greater contempt among countries across the world. But I think he was speaking to his own base, because his base is like one-third of the American public. They are a part of American society that has no moral compass.
