Colorized photo of Chiang Kai-Shek in Western suit !
A rare photograph of Chiang Kai-shek wearing a Western suit, taken during his meeting with Toyama Mitsuru, leader of the Black Dragon Society, in Tokyo, Japan, in October 1927.
At the time, forced to resign as the Kuomintang (KMT) leader due to setbacks in the Northern Expedition, Chiang sought support in Japan for a political comeback.
Toyama Mitsuru, founder of the militarist Black Dragon Society, was then one of Japan's most influential "shadow power brokers."
By compromising Chinese interests and later securing an alliance through his marriage to Soong Mei-ling after returning to China, Chiang obtained the capital needed to reclaim power.
In December of that year, he regained control of the Kuomintang regime.
