Today, G5 Labs is emerging from stealth with $14 million in seed funding to build a new abstraction layer for AI-native software development. @pillar_vc and @BatteryVentures co-led the round, with participation from @omegavp , Encoded Ventures, and prominent angel investors including @JeffDean .
G5 Labs is pioneering the post-developer era. A spinout from MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), the G5 Labs platform makes natural-language intent, organized as an ontology, the source code itself—putting software development in the hands of the whole organization while providing the governance needed to keep requirements, implementation, and organizational policies aligned.

Exciting results, @LiamFedus! Congrats to the whole team at Periodic Labs!
We built high-throughput materials labs in Menlo Park to create a loop between experiments and models. The labs generate fresh data, the models learn from it, and then help us decide what to try next.
Using only 1,300 H200s, plus months of our experimental data, we mid-trained and RL’d an open-source model to surpass GPT-6 Astra on our analysis benchmark. We call it Neon.
This is real footage from our lab. We’re focusing first on hard problems in materials science, including superconductors, magnets, and semiconductor materials.

What you didn't happen to mention was that it wasn't just a normal USC club soccer team practice session, but actually was tryouts day. So there were like 80 skilled undergrads there, all eager to make the team. So it was divided up into a bunch of small-sided 7v7 games. I like to think 45-year-old me kind of held my own, but I'm sure everyone was thinking "Who's the old guy playing in our 7v7 match?" 😅
