Stories from the past: This is a totally true story of my early adventures in Catholic School. Remember Greenie Stickum Caps? Almost got me sacrificed. At my first Catholic school we had a huge assembly each day in the courtyard at the foot of a huge portico leading into a huge gothic stone convent. We wore uniforms. Jacket and tie, matching pants, shoes, etc. Long story short I had about five caps stuck between a nickel and dime...my milk and cookie money. Somehow my heel came down on it during a quiet moment. I had no idea it would be that loud, it was like a nuke in that walled in space. Mother superior's radar activated instantly. She scanned the crowd. She drifted down he steps almost levitating and right up to my aisle in the formation. I breathed a sigh of relief as she strode right past me, and then ... She turned around and grabbed me by the ear. She led me up those massive stone steps right into the convent through 12-foot-tall oak iron reinforced doors deep into the bowls of their sanctuary. Halfway down a dark hallway we made a left into their private chapel. It was not just any chapel. The icons were different. The life-sized crucifix behind the alter had Jesus hanging there, blood literally running from his wounds from head to toe, not of that little drippy stuff you're used to, it was brutally bizarre. I was terrified. As Mother Superior and I kneeled at the foot of the alter she leaned over and whispered, "Pray". Then she left me there with all that blood and gore. I prayed my ass off all the while knowing what we all believed was true. No kid that ever got dragged to the convent was ever seen again. The nuns had a dungeon in the basement of their sinister castle where recalcitrant youths were tortured and killed using all manner of medieval devices then secretly buried them in the woods. As I was thinking I would never see my parents or family again she came back and knelt beside me. She asked, "Did you pray?". I replied, "Yes mother superior, very hard.". She said come with me and handed me off to two novice nuns. Surprisingly, to my great relief, they took me back to my classroom. As we passed each open door the other kids would look up and see me and quickly look away. Nobody except teachers would talk to me, even during recess, for about a week. Finally, my best friend, Robin told me that all the kids thought I was some kind of demon because nobody ever escaped the dungeon alive!

I've been beating kids at Fortnite all afternoon. How does a 73-year-old man with arthritis in his hands pick up a PS controller opening a can of whoop ass on a bunch of kids? It's easy. While they run amuck jumping one another's ass recklessly exposing themselves I have a strategy, battle plan, and tactics. Stealth and carefully placed shots beat spraying and praying all day long. Logistics are important. Why run all over trying to beat others to weapons and resources when if you simply find a good place to lay up until 3/4 of them have wiped one another out the battlefield is litters with good stuff. The game makes you think and plan to do it well and it's good to keep an aging mind active and functional.
