I've been getting some lovely newsletter reader emails today about Aaron Brown, CNN's voice on 9/11, who died in 2024. Here's one of them:
"I was one of the many who relied upon CNN on that tragic and terrible day and afterward. Aaron Brown was an eloquent anchor, as well as an excellent reporter. On 9/11, he kept us up to date with what was known at the time, and later, as more facts unfolded, he put them into context. But he always focused on the facts: he never guessed or speculated or spread conspiracy theories. He was a voice of reason, and that was what we all needed. I miss him to this day. May he rest in peace, and may his family know that Aaron's contributions to journalism have not been forgotten."

Thinking of my friend Aaron Brown today. 9/11 was his first day of work at CNN, and he became an indelible part of our memories of that day. He was a wonderful journalist and a terrific guy who broke no-smoking rules with impunity.
