#Swift #iOSDev

Swift may finally get a compile-time answer to a question that Apple-platform projects ask constantly: what is the minimum OS version this build actually targets? SE-0554 proposes deployment-target conditional compilation. That is different from `#available`. Availability checks answer a runtime question: can this API be used on the OS where the program is currently running? The proposed `#if deploymentTarget(...)` answers a build-time question: is the configured minimum deployment target at least this version? That distinction can matter when compatibility code should disappear entirely once a project drops support for an older OS. Instead of keeping both paths compiled and selecting at runtime, the old path could be excluded from builds whose deployment target no longer needs it. The proposal is currently under review through October 12, so this is not accepted Swift behavior yet. Prototype toolchains are available for testing. #SwiftLang forums.swift.org/t/se-0554-d…

#Apple just signaled a meaningful change to macOS security: Full Disk Access is going to get additional controls. Today, Full Disk Access largely bypasses the normal privacy protections because some software, especially backup tools, genuinely needs broad filesystem access. Apple says that some apps are using it in ways that can expose files, mail, messages and browsing history without users fully understanding the scope. The interesting developer question is what happens next. Apple has not announced the exact API or UX yet, only that granting this access will require “very explicit user action.” That matters beyond one permission dialog. As Mac apps become capable of doing more work autonomously, broad permissions become much more powerful. The permission model has to express not only what an app can technically access, but whether the user really intended to give it that much authority. #macOS developer.apple.com/news/?id…

Introducing LoopCD our latest research at 🍎 Apple MLR. Heard the rumors that frontier models like GPT-6 Astra and Gemini 4 use Looped Transformers? We present a new inference-time method that makes pre-trained looped models better for (almost) free! AIME 2024 (Ouro-2.6B): 61.9 → 73.3 HumanEval (Huginn): 22.6 → 31.7 No training. No extra model. Read our paper for more details: arxiv.org/abs/2610.02185
Looped Transformers' earlier states already hold a guidance signal. But standard decoding ignores it. We use it via LoopCD. 🎯 Full depth: AIME24 pass@1 61.88% → 73.33% (Ouro-2.6B-Thinking) ⚡ Half the loop depth: 7-task mean matches full depth, up to 48.2% fewer forward FLOPs 📄 Paper: arxiv.org/abs/2610.02185 1/4

Swift already knows the minimum OS version from the target triple. SE-0554 proposes exposing it to #if, so libraries can use that information directly instead of maintaining custom -D flags and build scripts that must stay in sync with the deployment target. SE-0554 is open for review through October 12: forums.swift.org/t/89822

🚨 NOW: Anthropic chief DARIO just walked up and said President Trump helped put his Super Intelligence worries at ease "If we do this right, we work with the President and everyone here, we can win safely!" Imagine that, all it took was DONALD J. TRUMP getting involved and the tables are turning! No more SI dooming, no more surrendering to China. America will remain number one BOTH for national and economic security, as long as Trump is president 👏🏻

My Swift Evolution proposal, SE-0554, is now in review through October 12. It adds `#if deploymentTargetAtLeast(...)` so libraries can choose declarations or stored types based on their minimum deployment target. github.com/swiftlang/swift-e… I’d love to hear what you think: forums.swift.org/t/89822 #Swift
