survey trust in leaders in the field by country for that country

If we are suspicious of China's self-reported economic data, should we not look on survey data with a similarly jaundiced eye?

I find these surveys meaningless. So what? It's always been like this in US and it's always been like this in China, yet economic gap is widening between the two due to fundamental and structural differences. Individual freedom & liberty are core bedrock of successful societies.
