My grandfather used to say some players make the game look easy and a few make it look unfair. Eric Davis in 1987 was the second kind. He hit three grand slams in May alone, which tied the major league record for one month that Rudy York set back in 1938, and he was doing it in a Reds outfield where he also happened to be one of the best defenders alive. The number that stops me is 129. He gave back 33 games to hamstrings and shoulders and still finished at .293 with 100 RBI to go with the 37 and 50. Nobody had ever paired 30 homers with 50 steals before him. Somebody out there watched a player like this and has been waiting years for an excuse to bring him up.
