"Brothers and sisters, do not be afraid to welcome Christ and accept his power... Open wide the doors for Christ." -- Pope St. John Paul II ¡Viva Cristo Rey!
With all the X accounts celebrating the Protestant Reformation & how it supposedly “saved” or “rediscovered” the Gospel, I figured a look should be given to what it really wrought. There was a significant departure from the early Church, which has only gotten worse.
Ok, TikTok didn’t work out so well so let’s go with YouTube instead. Cool video on Montezuma’s direct descendants. Still glad the Aztec religion was crushed.

When Christians disagree over Scripture, who can settle the dispute? A confession can bind a denomination, but what authority do divided churches recognize as competent to judge between them?

Another Catholic defender during the Protestant Reformation era that is sadly little known today. I used copies of his writings at Internet Archive & AI to make this.

He’s asking for help if anyone knows how to get him back on here. @soladrip
Hopefully he gets back soon! 💧
The Book of Job is one of my favorites in Scripture. You have a man who undergoes incredible tragedy, but remains faithful till he finally breaks. God seems distant & callous to human eyes. Yet He isn’t & there’s this humbling bit that we can’t know everything. Trust is key.
This one by Servant of God Thomas Byles from 1897 looks really interesting and goes into the “definitely read” stack! Besides the subject matter, this is the only book published by Fr. Byles as he died 15 years later aboard the Titanic!

Now up for the Catholic Truth series, is on the hope of our faith, Heaven with God after this life. Using this 1871 text, reflecting Trent, this shows continuity to the present day.
The Fathers pointed to the apostolic Churches. What happens when that historic authority becomes subject to each interpreter’s verdict? Who becomes the final judge & where does the skepticism stop?
