Bhutan has become the first country to adopt Gross Ecosystem Product (GEP) nationally. Its 2024 estimate is $6.2B.
GEP estimates the annual dollar value of benefits people receive from ecosystems: water supply, carbon storage, flood protection and nature tourism. The aim is to bring those benefits into decisions about land use and investment.
Bhutan has a long history of widening its measures of progress. Its Gross National Happiness index tracks health, education, time use, culture, community and the environment, and is used in national planning.
If we reach something like a “post-economic” future, governments will still decide what to build, protect and fund. Will be interesting to see whether non-GDP metrics play a role there.

Ciao for now Berlin. So begins my solarpunk arc: I’m heading to India for @JoinEdgeCity where I’ll be working on the Dizko launch while also learning about eco living and AI for Ag tech.
Then, I’m meeting up with my cousins in Brazil to work with local family farms, developing AI powered tech for agroforestry systems while learning from them in tandem. I’ll teach them how to build and run domain specific harnesses, and they’ll teach me how to steward the land and its creatures.
I am unbelievably stoked, as this is the most tuned in I’ve been to my internal GPS in a long time.
I’ll still be available for contract and freelance work if you need it, so reach out if you need anything.

It connects CIMC's community with the network that grew out of that month, so the research can continue beyond Goa.
