Respectfully, Bandai Namco did this to themselves. Their core player base has been screaming from the rafters about getting old Tekken games re-released, but to no avail.
Capcom routinely releases their old games with servers and active support, so what is Bandai Namco's excuse? "Tekken players don't really want older games", is what we heard and yet, last I checked, there were 10,000 players on Tekken 6. A number that eclipses the Tekken 8 STEAM charts (I think its fair to reference those in this instance).
The fix is simple but Bandai Namco refuses to give the customers what they want. This is what happens when you have a very dedicated and intelligent base of customers that do not feel heard. I am not even hear to argue morality, right or wrong or the discussion around AI. I am simply stating that this was always going to be the outcome. We called it many moons ago and now we are here.
We now know there is an active and sizeable demand for old Tekken games to come back and receive rollback and crossplay. They can continue to play dumb or they can continue to hold the L. The choice is entirely there own. The proof is now out there. No matter what anyone says or does, people are going to continue to find ways to play their old favorites, especially because the technology now allows it.
Releasing a new Tekken collection will surely hurt the numbers of Tekken 8, but that no longer matters when players are migrating to older Tekken games anyway. The only difference now is, Bandai Namco can't benefit from it. They only lose by being stubborn.
Honestly one of the dumbest thing i've seen a gaming company do in a long time. You reap what you sow.
