This is the world we live in. What a shame!
Right then here goes!!! So I’ve just received this evening notification of another 3 complaints sent to the HCPC about more so called unprofessional behaviour online that they are ‘investigating’ yet again! These complaints were all sent during the first week of my hearing in July and I think explains why my first hearing was postponed after 5 years of prolonged delays! So unfortunately I think I’m just about done with the profession right now, and think I will now voluntarily deregulate myself from the HCPC and physiotherapy! I just don’t think I can be bothered to fight anymore of these malicious and pathetic complaints from those I have criticised, offended, or upset in the past and deal with the HCPCs woeful drawn handling of them! It really is mentally fatiguing and exhausting! I also have a feeling that these complaints and investigations will never stop now unless I do this! So for my own mental and physical health, and to allow me to say what I want, how I want, including my critique and criticism of the dogma and outdated thinking and people in this profession, I think that I have no choice but to find another path that allows me to honestly and simply help those in pain and disability! It’s been a fun and emotional 20 year ride, and I hate the fact that I have to leave a profession I love and am passionate about under these circumstances! But life goes on! And to those that have submitted these complaints recently and in the past… Congrats… well played… you’ve got what you’ve wanted! But believe me… you haven’t won the fight, there are still many more rounds left in me and I hope you have the stamina for it… Because believe… I do! See you on the other side! How do changes in the nervous system impact strength loss with ageing? New review from my colleague @orssattolucas and co. on some novel mechanisms. The best way to counter these changes? Resistance training, of course. physoc.onlinelibrary.wiley.c…

3 sets of repeated chair stands (5 or 10 reps per set), 3 times per week. Sound feasible? Over 8 weeks, this was enough to improve: Muscle thickness: ⬆️8-9% Muscle quality index: ⬆️40-45% Relative sit-to-stand power: ⬆️29-38% Resistance training doesn’t have to be fancy to be effective. peerj.com/articles/15665/

Physical activity is #medicine ! 🏋️‍♀️🏃‍♂️ New review shows exercise improves health across diseases in older adults. Let's get moving! 🚶‍♀️🚴‍♂️ #ExerciseIsMedicine Key points: Exercise treats conditions like #dementia #frailty #sarcopenia where drugs often fail or cause harm. 💊❌ Must use evidence-based modes like resistance training at proper doses. 🏋️‍♀️🏋️‍♂️ Review Rx with exercise like other meds. 💊💪 Watch for interactions! Integrate exercise pros into care teams. 👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️🏃‍♀️ Change medical training to value exercise. 🏥🎓 📲📲📲📲📲📲sciencedirect.com/science/ar… @exerciseworks @Ageing_Better @uda_longevity @EuGMSSociety @GeriSoc @AmerGeriatrics @WHOCenterFrailt

Amen.
We don’t need more evidence that exercise is beneficial. We do need more work on how to translate this evidence into practice.

Fantastic thread!
Both muscle mass and function decline with ageing. But one is arguably more important to target with resistance training. Here’s why:

But, but... carbs are evil🤣 Probably the only "argument" one can make at this stage. Though, I know I'll get surprised sooner rather than later.
Low-carb🥩is best for all outcomes😉 - Athletes 🏋🏻adhering to an LCHF diet 🥩 have impaired training capacity (⬇️lower training volumes at ⬇️slower speeds, with ⬆️higher heart rates🫀) relative to their high-carb🥖 counterparts: journals.humankinetics.com/v…

Più grande 👏👏👏 Emotions... "We are free now" by Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard just made everything worse and more beautiful at the same time. #Legend

Only people in academia can relate to this pain which is completely avoidable and unnecessary. Nice to see some data quantifying the (obvious) repercussions.
Any academic knows the pain of re-formatting manuscripts for different journals. This paper estimated the time and costs associated with meeting the diverse formatting requirements in biomedical journals. "Should the current practice remain unchanged within this decade, we estimate ~2.5 billion USD could be lost between 2022 and 2030 - solely due to reformatting articles after a first editorial desk rejection." bmcmedicine.biomedcentral.co…

I wonder what kind of explanation or counter-argument keto zealots will come up with after reading this paper.
Ketodiet suboptimal for muscle-building? "When carbohydrate restriction is maintained for 8 to 12 weeks, the alterations in anabolic signaling, protein synthesis, and myogenesis likely contribute to limited hypertrophic responses to resistance training" pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3705…

What about all the promotions and "science" awards I've seen people getting from xyz publications in this (and other) journal(s)? Are they also going to be "removed"? ":D"
Ok this is big. Web of Science just removed the MDPI flagship journal IJERPH from their lists. This means IJERPH has no more an Impact Factor. Why is this big? What are the implications? 🧵

Our latest study on velocity loss (VL) thresholds during resistance training (RT) was published in @EJAP_official last month. Should we use VL to monitor and prescribe RT volume with free weights? Let's see! link: rb.gy/yrvvzy Overview of some of the findings ⬇️

Overall, are the VL thresholds useful? Yes, but not for monitoring and prescribing training volume and controlling the level of effort (i.e., proximity to failure). They are just another tool in your toolbox with their strengths and weaknesses.

It took me a month to post the study on Twitter (really need to step up my social media game), but better late than never. Critics are welcome!
