In 2023 Sam Griffiths was remanded for 21 days for his action on Cromwell Road which lasted 16 minutes. Following the verdict Jamie Russell, 52, from Shrewsbury said: "In our evidence we included a report by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries which states that if we hit 2C by 2050 we will see two billion deaths. The CPS and the judge allowed this to go into 'Agreed Facts' – meaning it was not in dispute. They really don't want us back. As people are released after taking nonviolent action yesterday, we're witnessing the draconian bail conditions @metpoliceuk are imposing on them. Some people are being banned from communicating with their codefendants. Some are banned from the city of Westminster, which is a clear interference with the democratic right to speak to your MP in Parliament. Multiple people had their train tickets, senior railcards and oyster cards confiscated, before being released between 3-5am with no means of communication or way home. Why? One custody officer told an arrestee they didn't know, only that the orders "came from on high". This approach is disgraceful. When we take nonviolent action, we expect to be arrested. Just Stop Oil has returned after previously announcing they were "hanging up the hi-vis" in March 2025. As Andy Burnham prepared to take his first prime minister's questions on Wednesday, roughly 60 activists from the group blocked a road outside. A "significant number" glued themselves to the tarmac at Parliament Square, the group said. At least a quarter of the activists had been arrested as of 1pm. The group say that they have left one lane free to permit access for emergency vehicles. The group has reemerged as part of a campaign to pressure Burnham to block drilling for new oil and gas in the North Sea. “Andy Burnham, we are crying out for leadership," said Trish Fitzmaurice, a mother from Norfolk who was arrested today. "The climate crisis is the biggest threat humanity has ever faced. We are destroying our only home by burning fossil fuels. Oil and gas mean death.”
