🔸 General Summary of the AMA
This AMA was hosted by Combinder and brought together leaders from key DePIN projects in the peaqosystem
@peaq to explore the concept of the prosumer (producer-consumer) and its emerging role in decentralized economies.
Representatives from Silencio, FarmSent, and XMaquina explained how their platforms enable users not just to consume services, but to actively contribute to value creation. Host Kai Siefert emphasized that Web3 technologies are reshaping economic dynamics, allowing everyday citizens to participate in and profit from markets traditionally dominated by large corporations.
The conversation focused on data ownership, digital sovereignty, incentives within DePIN, and how these models are empowering people to take active roles in the systems they use.
🔸 AMA Questions & Answers
🧩 What does “prosumer” mean to you and how does it apply to your project?
Yog (FarmSent):
Farmers are the original prosumers—historically producing for survival and consuming for sustenance. Today, by actively contributing agricultural data, they represent a modern form of prosumerism.
Alex (Silencio):
A prosumer is someone who both consumes and produces. Our users collect noise data with our app and also use it through tools like our Chrome extension. We're working to expand their role, enabling them to also sell data and build tools that increase its utility.
Mercury (XMaquina):
The prosumer idea started in Web2 with user-generated content, but Web3 enables users to profit from their contributions. While XMaquina isn’t a DePIN per se, we support DePIN evolution by investing in physical AI and contributing via DAOs like ODAO.
Kai Siefert (Combinder):
Prosumers step out of passive consumer roles by adopting technologies like solar panels or 3D printers to produce. Thanks to DePIN, people can now be fairly rewarded for their contributions—especially in sectors like energy.
🧩 What role does data ownership and privacy play in this model?
Kai Siefert (Combinder):
Being a prosumer means reclaiming data sovereignty. Today, large corporations own and monetize user-generated data. Combinder aims to change this by enabling individuals to sell their energy flexibility—a multi-billion-dollar market they’re currently excluded from.
Yog (FarmSent):
Many farmers don’t realize they own the data their farms generate. We’re educating them about this, so they can benefit directly from contributing data to AI systems, helping others while earning income.
William (Silencio user):
Tools like Silencio make data personal and tangible. Seeing how your data is collected and used helps users understand its value, promoting more conscious ownership and participation.
🧩 How does this model translate into real economic value for prosumers?
Kai Siefert (Combinder):
Collective purchasing power is key. Through campaigns like The Source Awakens, communities can buy products like Shelly smart plugs at discounts while entering raffles for peaq tokens. This boosts adoption and strengthens their negotiating power with manufacturers.
Alex (Silencio):
Two major challenges: information asymmetry (users don't know what data they generate or its value) and entry barriers (monetizing data is hard). Silencio tackles this by being transparent and offering clear rewards—showing what’s collected and how much users earn.
Mercury (XMaquina):
Web3 fosters more direct producer-consumer relationships—like decentralized telecoms or local energy networks. These help build resilient local economies. While not a DePIN, XMaquina supports these models via aligned DAO contributions.
🟢 Final Comment
This session suggest that the prosumer model may not be a trend—it’s a structural shift. We are moving toward an economy where individuals regain control over what they consume and produce. Blockchain technology, especially through DePINs on peaq network, is enabling this by providing tools for monetization, governance, and data ownership.
Projects like Silencio, FarmSent, and Combinder show that it’s possible to build fairer, more decentralized, and sustainable systems. And with initiatives like The Source Awakens, there are tangible ways for anyone to start participating in this transformation today.
