John Havlicek went 8-0 in the NBA Finals and Jerry West went 1-8. But after Game 7 of the 1969 Finals, none of that really mattered.
West had just dropped 42 points, 13 rebounds and 12 assists, finishing the series at 37.9 PPG, and became the only player ever to win Finals MVP on the losing team.
Boston still won.
And when it was over, Havlicek walked up to a devastated West and simply told him:
“Jerry, I love you.”
