Instead of thousands of disposable cups, devotees were served buttermilk, kashaya and panaka in reusable steel tumblers. Steel plates replaced disposable ones at several venues too. And this isn’t a one-time effort. The town has been working for years to make public celebrations more zero-waste, including segregating wet and dry waste during festivals.
