TURN OFF THE TELLY!
Why Aussies Are Sick of Weak, “Paid-Off” Government-Funded Media!
Australians are changing how they get their news.
Only 43% trust the news, while 40% sometimes or often avoid it.
At the same time, governments are spending billions on media, including $153.5 million through the so-called News Media 'Assistance Program' and about $1.86 billion on broadcasting.
That raises fair questions about independence, influence and accountability.
I call it “paid off.”
Australians want:
• balanced reporting
• facts clearly separated from opinion
• diverse perspectives
• stronger editorial standards.
Aussies haven’t stopped caring about the truth.
They’ve stopped automatically trusting the talking heads to deliver it.
