Campaign to have Dr Gray's Maternity Unit Restored to Consultant Status

Elgin, Scotland
Just catching up with the latest MBRRACE report. A small decrease in stillbirth rates, neonatal deaths ⬆️ & disparities associated with ethnicity & deprivation persist. Bottom line - this underlines that progress has stalled & much much more needs to be done. #maternitysafety timms.le.ac.uk/mbrrace-uk-pe…

This is extremely concerning. We need concerted focus and action to address this.
1/4 Today, we've launched our #WorriedAndWaiting report on paediatric waiting times in Scotland. Long waits are particularly harmful for children and young people. We need bold action to ensure children receive timely & effective care. Find out more 👉 rcpch.ac.uk/waiting-scotland

A very difficult situation for expectant mums needing specialist maternity services. What does @NHSHighland advise? @jenni_minto @1edmountain @Emma_Roddick
My argument has always been not just the distance (over 100miles) but also you have to go through other counties to get to Inverness. Wick has no snow. You go a bit further & it gets much more tricky. We need safe local services #Caithnesswomenshealth #failed #birthinthesnow

Great to have your support and good to meet you yesterday.
Interesting headline in @NScot yesterday when visiting Elgin. Dr Gray's reinstatement can't come soon enough for families in Moray. Well done to @KeepMUMMoray and others for their campaigning.

Another aspect of downgrading the specialist unit.
In case you missed it... Ambulance journeys to transport pregnant Moray women to Aberdeen more than double since downgrade of maternity services at Dr Gray's Hospital in Elgin northern-scot.co.uk/news/rev…

However, the decision makers spin this, paying for a hotel upfront is not the 'NHS free at the point of need.'
🏥 For 5 years NHS Grampian has, rightly, been covering expenses for Moray families travelling to Aberdeen to give birth. 🤔 However, ~TWO THIRDS still aren't bothering to claim. Does it need to be made easier? 📰 Story for @PressJournal. @KeepMUMMoray pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/lif…

The only women able to give birth in Inverness are women transferred in labour from Elgin. Moray women can't book to give birth in Inverness.
Incredible. It's taken five years for our health service to work out a way for Moray women to give birth in the hospital closest to them. Care should be based on real life, not imaginary lines drawn on a map. pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/lif…

So glad all ended happily. Welcome to the world little Isla! 💕
👶 So many Moray families have shares their maternity stories with me for @PressJournal over the years, only fair I share my own. 👏 Our birth experience was enhanced by going to Inverness instead of Aberdeen. More should get opportunity. @KeepMUMMoray pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/lif…
