Yes, but it's somewhat unique. Hield's deal is written so that if he is waived, his partially guaranteed player option isn't triggered automatically.
In most cases with a player option, the option is considered picked up if a player is waived, triggering whatever is guaranteed.

This is likely the path the Hornets will take to create a larger TPE that expires later.
The Bulls will go over the salary cap by acquiring Buddy Hield for Rob Dillingham. Still $34.6M away from the luxury tax.
The Hornets drop to $25.6M under the luxury tax by acquiring Dillingham for Hield. Charlotte created about a $2.7M TPE in the deal too.
