Leadership isn’t about perfection. In fact, there is no such thing as a perfect leader.
* No perfect pastor,
* No perfect sportsman,
* No perfect Sunday school teacher 😁
* No perfect politician.
In fact, the closest you'll ever get to a perfect leader is your parent, and you eventually grow up to realize they are also deeply flawed.
One of the reasons why Nigeria still has a leadership problem is that we are looking for perfect leaders and so we end up getting hypocritical folks that pretend to be perfect.
Here is what leadership really should be:
Everyone should be a leader because everyone has one, two, or a couple of excellent values, talents, skills, traits. These automatically qualifies you to be looked up to because those things you are excellent at, there are lots of people who are average, below average and even very poor at. However, the presence of these emulatable traits does not equate to an absence of flaws. As a matter of fact, the presence of these weaknesses does not disqualify you as a leader. It just clearly demarcates the aspects of life where you should be leading and where you should be following.
As a good leader, your followers should know your strengths as well as your weaknesses and flaws. You must acknowledge them in equal measure so you don’t end up becoming a pretentious role model as opposed to being a real model.
Beware of perfect leaders!
