Lagos Life has lost its mind, and I'm part of why 😅🇳🇬
I just wanted to know how people were hitting billions. I poked and found a couple of holes.
First was almost too simple. The game trusted whatever my device said my balance was, so your money could become any number. Type it in, done.
Second was the betting. Results were decided on my phone, not the server, so you could work out the winners and bet a sure thing. The UI capped slips at ₦50k, but i pushed it to ₦100k at 500 odds and placed bets programmatically that flipped to ₦1b once they settled. Free money on repeat.
Then it clicked I wasn't alone. Half the leaderboard did the same, because nobody grinds to ₦5bn honestly.
So the economy is inflated beyond sense, and it is a gift and a curse.
The gift: the game came alive. Everybody online, everybody scheming, trillionaires everywhere. An escape where everyone lives large.
The flip side: money means nothing. The flex is nothing really when half the city is swimming in cash from nowhere, and the honest come up is dead.
Credit to the devs, money is now locked to the server, so the free money printer is off 👏. But the trillions already minted are still out there. You cannot just stop the bleeding, you have to drain the pool.
How I would do it and keep it fun:
Claw it back in character. Police crackdowns 🚔🚨 Flag the mad balances on big transfers, freeze them, seize a chunk as unexplained wealth, add a wealth tax. Hoarders bleed, honest players barely feel it. And the genius bit, exactly like real life: if you were smart and spread your dirty money across land, businesses and assets before the raid, you keep a big piece. Lawyer up and you might even beat the case. All probabilities. That alone turns a shakedown into its own game.
Then make wealth expensive to hold so it never piles up again. Property tax, car maintenance, fuel, diesel when NEPA takes light, staff salaries, rent, school fees, black tax. The richer you are, the more you burn. And make it feel like flexing, not taxing. People will gladly blow a fortune on an owambe, a chieftaincy title, a jet, a Banana Island mansion that never resells. The devs have already done well with high ticket items and Ikoyi club.
Keep the ceiling high so the grind still pays. Let people develop cheap land into earners, build empires, a club, an import business, a Nollywood house, a label. Let players trade assets so money circulates instead of printing. Tie the biggest money to real skill, not luck.
Fully behind this game, the potential is huge and these early hiccups are expected. Even billion dollar game dev studios hit them.
And apps might be worth it down the line, mobile, Mac and PC. It fixes nothing on its own, the real work is server side, but it raises the bar for casual poking.
