Banning @declassifiedUK from another Labour Party Conference is bang out of order. I thought we’d seen the back of the Starmer-era tricks of managing the media to duck accountability. Read my full comment below šŸ‘‡šŸ½ declassifieduk.org/declassif…

Today I have written to the head of the UK Football Policing Unit after its disgraceful attempt to link alcohol with the Hillsborough disaster following the Prime Minister’s call to ease restrictions at football matches. Alcohol did not cause Hillsborough. The behaviour of supporters did not cause or contribute to the disaster. These are the authoritative, factual conclusions of the inquests and the independent investigations. They are not matters of opinion. Thirty-seven years on, when will policing authorities finally accept the truth and stop perpetuating the lies and smears created in the aftermath of the disaster? Enough is enough. #JFT97

We were told outsourcing would transform our public services. But the reality has been far from the pitch. Our new report, in collaboration with @unisontheunion and @RMTunion , outlines why insourcing is needed across the public sector. common-wealth.org/publicatio…

This is why we need Trew's Law. Christopher Poulter & Kevin Biggs have finally had their convictions quashed - 50 years after they were convicted on evidence from a corrupt officer. How many more people must spend decades fighting to uncover the truth? bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cwnv…

The new exhibition on 50 years since Rock Against Racism at the British Music Experience in the Cunard looks brilliant. With blackshirts on our streets again, it’s a timely reminder of successful strategies to bring people together and fight fascism. britishmusicexperience.com/

The clamour for Labour to cut welfare is deafening. This won’t make us more secure, help people into work or make real savings. It’ll make people poorer and pile pressure onto services like the NHS - costing more in the long-run. Cuts won’t create jobs. They create poverty.
I’ve written to the Prime Minister, with Labour MPs to urge a reset in the Government’s approach to disability benefits. Labour must reject the politics of scapegoating the poorest for the challenges we face. We have a chance to rebuild trust and raise living standards.

It’s estimated that one in five women in the UK will experience a miscarriage in their lifetime. But if you lose a pregnancy before 24 weeks, there is currently no legal right to bereavement leave. I don’t think that’s right. Losing a pregnancy can be devastating. You and your partner shouldn’t have to worry about going straight back to work. So we’re changing the law. From April, women and their partners will be entitled to two weeks off after any pregnancy loss. And we’re making wider changes, with new rights to time off when you lose someone you love. When you’re grieving, you deserve the time and space to do that.

Merseyrail is returning to public ownership from 2028 šŸš† Another major step towards a fully integrated public transport network for our region. I spoke with @MetroMayorSteve about what this means for passengers and why people should always come before profit.
