“I see a really special footballer, but I know he’s got to prove he can do it in the Premier League. At times last season he would put a ball on a plate for somebody and they wouldn’t score — he needs people to score.
You know, obviously Mo (Salah) had his worst season in terms of goals, Cody (Gakpo) didn’t score as many as he could have on the left, Isak was injured a lot, and Hugo (Ekitike) did well, to be fair to him. He could easily have ended up with 10–12 assists last season.
He’ll know he needs more. He’s really hungry as a player and he wants to be the best. He’s got the attitude and mentality to go and do it.”

“That was one of the poorest I’ve ever seen him in a Liverpool shirt. I’ve been critical of the fact that he hasn’t got the numbers but normally when you watch Wirtz, he’s neat and tidy, he keeps possession.
When you watch him, there’s things that you like. He will get out of a tight situation where you’d normally expect your player to lose the ball but the reason I worry is, I don’t think Florian Wirtz is in poor form since he’s come to Liverpool. I actually think what we see is what he is.
I was worried for Wirtz 12 months ago, maybe that was early to say that but I didn’t say it, I had it in my head… I don’t see how he’s going to hurt you. He’s neat and tidy and in some ways the price tag for that sort of player should be half of what Liverpool paid.
The worry for Wirtz is his performances so far have been so low and where we expected him was up here [high], to take Liverpool to a Premier League title, to another Champions League…”
