This Federal Budget is like fairy bread - bread and butter with a few sugar hits sprinkled on-top. It's not very offensive, it's not very effective.

This 2025 budget what is what I'd describe as a 'fairy bread' budget: bread and butter with a few hundreds and thousands sprinkled on top. It's not very offensive, it's not very effective.

These little sugar hits are designed to lull us back into a false sense of security, without actually doing the heavy lifting, which is the fundamental reform that we need to drive.

Can you even tell what party they represent anymore 🤦♀️
The major parties need to decide if they’re serious about climate action and let #Australians know where they stand.

The LNP's proposal for a nuclear reactor is essentially a strategy to prolong reliance on coal and gas. While they promise the first reactor by 2036, reality is we’re at least 15 years away.

This isn’t a plan it’s a distraction from addressing the climate crisis & delivering cheaper energy - which experts agree can be best delivered through renewables. #auspol

In May 2023, I called on the gov to address HECS debt indexation, burdening millions of Australians. Last week, legislation was passed to refund excess charges from last year, and it was great to see those refunds were processed this week. #auspol
When Sam wrote to me and explained he was going deeper into debt, despite having doubled down on his student loan repayments, I thought there must be a mistake. I now know the mistake is in the way the debts are calculated. I’m calling for an urgent review theguardian.com/australia-ne…

Help me out here - with no evidence to back it & all the concerns below the govt is rushing through a new law that would ban under 16s from social media. Yet with all the evidence in the world that a ban on gambling advertising would work we hear crickets? 🦗#pleaseexplain
Okay, I have spent some time analysing the kids' social media ban Bill and holy hell, this is bad.
You have one day (til COB tomorrow) to get a letter of submission in and I think it would be great if you did.

Don’t just take my word for it - these new laws stink. The only thing they really do is take “other peoples’” big money out of politics - while letting the legacy parties continue to spend $90million on election marketing. #givemeabreak
If a Government is trying to rush a bill through Parliament, then the odds are that something fishy is going on.

While there were a few low lights this past week in Patliament, the Govt’s dogged determinations to continue to try & legislate its way around High Court rulings was right up there! #dobetter #humanrightsmatter #theirrightsaremyrights
Labor's latest Bill is an unprecedented attempt to skirt its legal and humanitarian obligations in a cynical ploy to win votes.
Thank you @KyleaTink for speaking out against Labor's cruel deportation and offshore expansion laws!

A government that promised transparency and ambition during the 2022 election is now creating a climate of secrecy when it comes to Australia's climate policies.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese refuses to commit to announcing a 2035 target ahead of the election, only promising to do it "sometime next year". abc.net.au/news/2024-11-17/a…

Love them or hate them, at least Australians know where we stand with the Opposition - with Peter Dutton confirming he is committed to taking us backwards if elected.
