There are lots of good moments to talk…but sometimes you have to be the one to break the ice. Ask the youth in your life how they’re ~really~ doing. Make sure they know you’re always here to listen and help. When you keep the conversation going, you can help prevent suicide. It’s so important that they understand that they’re not alone and they’re never a bother.

You don't need the perfect words to support someone who's struggling. Sometimes, just being there is enough. Start by listening without judgment, offer your support, and remind them that help is available through 988.

This year's theme, "988 Reasons: Your reason is reason enough," reminds us that you don't have to be in crisis to reach out to the #988Lifeline. Whatever you're facing, support is available. Today, share what 988 means to you - whether it's reaching out for support, checking in on someone you care about, finding someone to talk to, or simply knowing that help is available when you need it. Share your reason and help remind others that there's no wrong time to reach out to 988.

Asking directly, “Are you thinking about suicide?” won’t put the idea in their head. If you think someone in your life is at risk of suicide, talking about it with them can help save their life. If they say yes, don’t panic. Stay calm, prioritize their safety and call 988 together to get more support. Go to neverabother.org for tips on what to say and how to take action. #SuicidePreventionMonth
