ALT Statement from the LGBT+ Labour National Committee following the publication of the EHRC’s updated code of practice The LGBT+ Labour National Committee is deeply disappointed by the updated code of practice published on Thursday by the EHRC. Members of all marginalised groups should have the right to fairness, dignity, and respect when accessing services. While the updated code of practice is an improvement on the previous guidance issued in 2025, it still falls short on realising this ideal. The code of practice as published will likely lead to widespread difficulties for service providers and trans people trying to safely access services. In particular, the recommendation that people may be excluded from services on a ‘case-by-case basis’ because of their appearance is likely to lead to increased harassment for gender nonconforming people of all identities. We will continue to campaign for changes which uphold the dignity of Trans and gender-nonconforming people in our community
ALT Today, on Trans Day of Visibility, we celebrate the contributions trans people make to our LGBT+ community and wider society. We reiterate our support for policies that allow trans people to live freely and authentically: for comprehensive Gender Recognition reform, a ban on conversion practices, accessible medical care, and championing trans rights globally.
ALT Statement from the LGBT+ Labour National Committee following the announcement of a pause on the Puberty Blockers Trial: LGBT+ Labour is extremely concerned by the MHRA’s decision to implement a last-minute pause on recruitment for the trial into the use of puberty blockers to treat gender incongruence in children and young people. We note that the MHRA has presented no new evidence to justify its decision, and believe that any move to raise the minimum age limit of participants will render the trial utterly flawed. The team of experts at KCL must be allowed to conduct their research free from political interference. Any action to the contrary goes against the best interests of the children and young people concerned. We urge the Department of Health and Social Care to work through any concerns and ensure that the trial proceeds in full, as committed to in the government’s manifesto.
