يوم الخميس، ٢٤ أيلول ٢٠٢٦، استقبل الأب جبرائيل رومانيلي، كاهن رعية العائلة المقدسة ومدير مدرسة البطريركية اللاتينية في غزة، عددًا من أطفال الروضة الذين خطوا خطواتهم الأولى في مسيرتهم المدرسية. واستقبل المعلمين والرهبات، الأطفال في يومهم الأول، حرصًا على أن تكون عودتهم إلى المدرسة تجربة مريحة ومليئة بالفرح. وللتخفيف من صعوبة ابتعاد الأطفال عن ذويهم في هذه المرحلة الأولى، أُعدّت لهم أنشطة وألعاب، كما قُدّمت لهم هدايا صغيرة، في أجواء من الفرح والاحتفال. شاكرًا الأب جبرائيل رومانيلي الأهالي على ثقتهم بالمدرسة، وعلى ائتمانهم إياها بمرافقة أطفالهم والعناية بهم خلال مسيرتهم التعليمية. On Thursday, September 24, 2026, Fr. Gabriel Romanelli, parish priest of the Holy Family Parish and principal of the Latin Patriarchate schools in Gaza, welcomed some kindergarten children as they took their first steps into school life. The youngest students were received by a team of teachers and two religious sisters, who accompanied them through their first hours in the classroom. To help ease the transition and make their return a joyful experience, the children were welcomed with small gifts and a time of dancing and celebration, offering them a warm beginning as they stepped away from their parents and into their new school routine. Fr. Gabriel Romanelli thanked the parents for entrusting the school to accompany and care for their children.

٢٣ أيلول ٢٠٢٦، استقبلت مدرسة البطريركية اللاتينية في غزة، في يومها الدراسي الثاني، طلاب الصفوف من السابع حتى الثاني عشر، لتكتمل بذلك عودة جميع الطلاب إلى المقاعد الدراسية، وكان طلاب الصفوف من الأول حتى السادس قد عادوا إلى صفوفهم يوم أمس الثلاثاء. ومع استئناف العام الدراسي الجديد وعودة الطلاب إلى مدرستهم، نواصل صلاتنا من أجلهم، سائلين الله أن يمنحهم القوة والطمأنينة، وأن يرافقهم في مسيرتهم التعليمية، ويعينهم على متابعة دراستهم رغم كل التحديات. كما نصلّي من أجل الكهنة والراهبات والمعلّمين والموظفين، طالبين من الله أن يمنحهم الحكمة والصبر والقوة، ليواصلوا رسالتهم في مرافقة الطلاب واحتضانهم ودعمهم طوال العام الدراسي. On September 23, 2026, the Latin Patriarchate School in Gaza welcomed students from Grades 7 to 12 on its second school day, completing the return of all students to the classrooms. Students from Grades 1 to 6 had returned to their classrooms the previous day, Tuesday. As the new academic year begins and students return to their school, we continue to pray for them, asking God to grant them strength and peace, to accompany them throughout their educational journey, and to help them continue their studies despite the challenges they face. We also pray for the priests, religious sisters, teachers, and staff, asking God to grant them wisdom, patience, and strength as they continue their mission of accompanying and supporting the students throughout the academic year of 2026/2027.

٢٢ أيلول ٢٠٢٦ — بعد نحو ثلاث سنوات من انقطاع التعليم، أعادت مدرسة البطريركية اللاتينية في غزة فتح أبوابها مع انطلاق العام الدراسي الجديد، مستقبلةً أكثر من ١٬٠٠٠ طالب وطالبة، من مرحلة رياض الأطفال وحتى الصف الثاني عشر. طوال سنوات الحرب، ظلّ توفير التعليم أولويةً قصوى لدى البطريركية اللاتينية في القدس ولدى غبطة الكاردينال بييرباتيستا بيتسابالا، بطريرك القدس للاتين. وبفضل سخاء المحسنين، وإشراف الأب جبرائيل رومنيلي، وتفاني الفريق المحلي في غزة، إلى جانب الدعم المتواصل من الموظفين والزملاء في القدس، تم إعادة إفتتاح المدرسة بالاضافة إلى مبنى الروضة الجديد. وقد تطلّب ذلك أشهرًا من التحضير والعمل الدؤوب، في ظل النقص الحاد في الموارد والظروف الصعبة، فطوال سنوات الحرب، لم تتوقف رعية العائلة المقدسة عن توفير التعليم للأطفال الذين لجأوا إلى مبانيها. واليوم، بات بإمكانها استقبال عدد أكبر بكثير من الطلاب مجددًا في صفوفهم الدراسية. وعبّر الأب جبرائيل عن تأثره بهذه اللحظة، مع عودة الأطفال إلى مقاعد الدراسة في مدارس البطريركية، قائلًا: "اليوم، رأينا دموع الفرح في عيون الأطفال وأولياء أمورهم، وهم يرون أبناءهم يعودون إلى المدرسة بعد ثلاث سنوات من عدم الاستقرار". Today, September 22, 2026 — after nearly three years of interrupted education, the Latin Patriarchate School in Gaza has reopened its doors with the start of the new academic year, welcoming more than 1,000 students from kindergarten through Grade 12. Throughout the years of war, providing education has remained a top priority for the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem and His Beatitude Pierbattista Cardinal Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem. Thanks to the generosity of benefactors, the guidance of Fr. Gabriel Romanelli, and the dedication of the local team in Gaza, together with the continued support of staff and colleagues in Jerusalem, the school has been reopened, along with its new kindergarten building. This has required months of preparation and hard work amid severe shortages and difficult conditions. Throughout the years of war, the Holy Family Parish never stopped providing education to children who had sought refuge on its premises. Today, it is once again able to welcome a much larger number of students into its classrooms. Fr. Gabriel expressed his deep emotion at the return of the children to the classrooms of the Patriarchate’s schools, saying: “Today, we saw tears of joy in the eyes of the children and their parents as they saw their children return to school after three years of instability.”

Friday, September 18, 2026 — The parish of Aboud celebrated the feast of Blessed Mary, Our Lady of Sorrows, with a solemn Mass presided over by Msgr. William Shomali, Patriarchal General Vicar, and Msgr. Giacinto-Boulos Marcuzzo at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, concelebrated by Fr. Rimon Haddad, parish priest, with the participation of a large number of faithful, who offered up their prayers, drawing strength from the Virgin Mary’s faith and steadfastness in the face of suffering and difficulties.

September 20, 2026 XXV Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year A lpj.org/en/news/meditation-o… Last Sunday’s Gospel offered by the Liturgy (Mt 18:21–35) contained an underlying question, which can be expressed as follows: How worthy is the other person – the brother who sins against me – of my forgiveness? Peter, in fact, had gone to Jesus precisely to raise this question. Jesus had already widened Peter’s understanding of what it means to forgive generously, freeing him from the temptation to calculate and measure. Today’s passage also contains a question (Mt 20:1–16). It is no longer Peter who asks it, but it emerges from the parable that Jesus tells. The parable is that of the workers of the last hour, and we could summarize the question this way: How worthy is the other person – my brother – of God’s love? Is he as worthy as I am? It is an important question, because even today, as last Sunday, offers us a glimpse into God’s heart; showing us how He loves; revealing the dynamics of His Kingdom. The parable is well known, yet it can scandalize us, because its logic is far off from the logic of our culture. A landowner goes out several times throughout the day to hire laborers for his vineyard. Only with the first group, whom he meets at dawn, does he agree on a wage, offering them one denarius a day (“After agreeing with them for the usual daily wage, he sent them into his vineyard”—Mt 20:2). All the other workers, he sent to the vineyard at various times of the day, some even at the very last hour, knowing only on that they will receive what is fair for their service (“You too go into my vineyard, and I will give you what is just.” — Mt 20:4). So far, nothing out of the ordinary. The owner needs his vineyard to be tended to, and he keeps sending people there, regardless of how many hours they might work for. As evening falls, something strange happens. The first is that the order of payment is reversed. And this is not by accident, but by the master’s explicit wish: “Summon the laborers and give them their pay, beginning with the last and ending with the first” (Mt 20:8). Why this decision? The passage makes it clear that the decision is not random, but deliberate, so that those who came first might see the pay given to those who came last. The laborers hired at the first hour, in fact, clearly see the pay of those who began last; they know that they have been given the same wage the master had agreed upon with them, and having labored the whole day, they legitimately expect to receive more (Mt 20:10) And here we find another strange thing. The laborers hired at the first hour, when they too receive only one denarius, do not complain about having received too little? Instead, they complain because the master treated the others the same way he treated them: “You have made them equal to us” (Mt 20:12). In other words, the master, in distributing his wealth, did not make any distinctions based on the workers’ merit. He applied a completely different logic. The master’s logic is not a different version of human justice: it is not simply better or more generous; it is simply different—it is another way of perceiving value, time, and relationships—a logic that subverts human logic. Human logic evaluates, measures, and rewards according to the value of what each person has achieved, whilst respecting the proper proportions. God’s logic is different because He does not give things, but gives Himself—His free and total love, a love that precedes us and goes beyond us, and asks only to be received. This treatment by the master—which shocks those who thought they had more rights—is the good news of the parable. To tell us that salvation begins by responding to the Lord’s call, but is then fulfilled when the gaze of our hearts is transformed and we stop living by measuring, calculating and viewing what is given to others as if it has been taken away from us. The parable tells us that one of the greatest enemies of our faith is precisely this: living by measuring salvation, both our own and that of others. To everyone, however, the true wealth is given as a gift: the ability to rejoice in another’s good as in one’s own, all grateful for the encounter with a God who is a Father, who can only give everything to everyone, respecting each one’s pace and differences, whilst never ceasing to treat us as children who are loved completely. +Pierbattista

الأحد ١٣ أيلول ٢٠٢٦، شارك غبطة الكاردينال بييرباتيستا بيتسابالا، بطريرك القدس للاتين، والمطران وليم شوملي، النائب البطريركي العام، في الاحتفال بعيد ارتفاع الصليب المقدس في بلدة الطيبة، وذلك في كنيسة المسيح الفادي، بحضور البطريرك الأسبق ميشيل صباح، والأب بشار فواضلة، كاهن الرعية، وعدد من الكهنة والمؤمنين. وتخلل الاحتفال قداسٌ إلهي، تلاه مسيرة بالشموع باتجاه كنيسة القديس جورج الأثرية، حيث أُضيئت شعلة الصليب المقدس، مجسدةً معنى الرجاء والنور في مواجهة الصعوبات. وجاء الاحتفال في أجواء عبّرت عن إيمان أبناء الطيبة وتمسكهم بأرضهم ورجائهم، رغم التحديات والظروف الصعبة. On Sunday, September 13, 2026, His Beatitude Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, and Msgr. William Shomali, General Vicar, celebrated the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in the town of Taybeh at Christ the Redeemer Church. The celebration was attended by former Patriarch Msgr. Michel Sabbah, Fr. Bashar Fawadleh, parish priest, as well as a number of priests and faithful. The celebration included a Holy Mass, followed by a candlelight procession to the historic Church of St. George, where the Holy Cross flame was lit, embodying the meaning of hope and light in the face of hardship. The celebration took place in an atmosphere that reflected the faith, determination, and hope of the people of Taybeh despite the challenges and difficult circumstances they face.
