I want to write a longer piece about
rivalyx.com, one of two new protocols that support the
$FLD ecosystem on Avax.
The other one from the same team, mugawuga, is easier for people to grasp because it's basically a version of the established fantasy sports idea with a nice interface and a few different options of how to compete. (By all means check that out too. I play every week in the EPL, $5 a go.)
But Rivalyx is an original and different model, which opens up a whole new way of playing with sport.
You buy tokens representing a team and it's not limited to how the team performs on a particular day or weekend of sport: you keep those tokens indefinitely.
Every time your team wins you earn. And these tokens can follow your team over years, through relegation, promotion, changes in personnel, anything.
There are a limited number of tokens for each team and the earlier you buy the better, because a bonding curve means that later purchases cost more than early ones.
It takes about 32,000 dollars to buy out all the tokens of one particular team and by the time that happens the price will have risen about 16 times. After all the tokens have been sold out they can be bought and sold on a secondary market on the same platform. Or kept forever.
The platform is on Avalanche chain and purchases can be made in USDC,
$AVAX,
$Arena, or
$FLD but all purchases are converted into
$FLD automatically.
There are many different teams in many different leagues in many different sports, both American and European, so you can see that a lot of
$FLD will be bought and locked into this system.
Obviously there are greater returns to be made by buying the teams which are currently dominant. But those teams will quickly become more expensive and long-term investors may wish to pick up at cheaper rates teams which are currently less successful but have a promising future.
So the protocol can benefit not only from people who see teams as an investment, but also from people's team loyalty and optimism, which are not always fully logical!
So there you have it. As it stands, if you wish to participate you are very very early, at least in la liga and the EPL, which are the only areas I know about and have personally bought from.
Have a look. NFA, but it's certainly fun and I'm betting it will be profitable too.
(While we're on the subject, this could be a good moment to research what will happen to the price of
$FLD with its current MC, if only a few of the teams sell out!)
