WCSO MEDIA RELEASE: Alert for Mae Foos Cancelled-She Has Ben Found Safe [Weld County, Colo.] The sheriff’s office is relieved to announce the alert for 19-year-old Mae Foos has been cancelled, she is alive and has been safely located. Thank you to the Weld County community for sharing our post, spreading the word about Mae, and showing up to help search for her. Your support and willingness to take action truly made a difference, and we are grateful for every effort made on her behalf. A sincere thank you also goes out to all the law enforcement agencies that responded, as well as the Platte Valley Protection District, Colorado Search and Rescue, and the Weld County Office of Emergency Management. Their coordination, professionalism, and commitment were instrumental in supporting this effort. No further information will be released today.

Weld County Sheriff’s Office Continues the Search for 19-year-old Mae Foos [Weld County, COLO.] On Sept. 12, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. Weld County Sheriff’s Office Patrol responded to a call of a runaway juvenile northeast of Kersey in the 23000 block of Weld County Road 61. During the investigation, patrol deputies learned 19-year-old Mae Foos was seen on camera leaving her residence in the 23000 block of Weld County Road 61 at 2:30 p.m. Deputies learned Mae has a history of running away from home, for about three hours but according to her family, she has never left the family property. When Mae did not return home after the expected period of time, the family contacted the sheriff’s office. When Mae left her residence, she was wearing a blue t shirt, grey shorts, black hat and carrying a black backpack. Mae’s last known location was at Weld County Road 59 and Weld County Road 48 on Sept. 12, at 3:30 p.m. southwest of her residence. Mae has been diagnosed with level 2 autism and is verbal but struggles to communicate when under stress. Her parents said she moves slower than most and does tire out quickly. Last night, the Kersey Police Department assisted the sheriff’s office with searching, for Mae. The Greeley Police Department and the sheriff’s office put up drones to search for Mae, but they did not find her. A statewide BOLO was issued through the National Crime Information Center. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation also published an endangered missing alert for Mae. Mae’s family and the Kersey community were also out driving the area for most of the night last night searching for her. Today, the Weld County Sheriff’s Office command bus was deployed at the Foos residence and unified command has been established there. Search efforts continued today with Kersey Fire Search and Rescue coordinating the search with drones. A Fire Rescue Search K-9 was deployed, along with the sheriff’s office K-9’s. Weld County Sheriff’s Office posse members were deployed to include the mounted unit, ATVs, and foot search volunteers. Colorado Search and Rescue also deployed assets to assist in the search in addition to WCSO investigations and patrol deputies. The Kersey Police Department has been keeping a close watch on the town for Mae and one of their School Resource Officers responded to assist us. In addition, around noon today the Kersey Police Department searched Platte Valley Highschool but did not find Mae. The Chevron company has made Mae’s description known to their drivers, and they have checked the company’s pad cameras west of residence but have not reported any further information. The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office also assisted us by responding to Mae’s grandparents’ residence in Wiggins. MCSO thoroughly checked the property, but there was no evidence of Mae being there. WCSO is still following up on a possible sighting of Mae in Berthod at approximately 6 p.m. last night. The sheriff’s office is working to gain access to camera system to confirm if the sighting was Mae. The Platte Valley Protection District helped the sheriff’s office with a fire assist this morning when they were notified Mae was missing. They also formed a unified command with the sheriff's office and are in a coordinated effort to attempt to locate Mae. The Weld County Office of Emergency Management also responded at the request of Platte Valley Protection District to assist with logistical orders and any other planning or support for the search mission. Based on the sheriff’s office investigation, we do not suspect foul play in Mae’s disappearance, and investigators now believe she has intentionally run away. The Burnett Gulch Fire is now 75% contained. Lines held overnight and fire crews are working on mop up today.

The Burnett Gulch Fire is now 50% contained. Crews are hiking out for the night but some fire resources will be spiked out in the area.

The Burnett Gulch Fire, burning north of Lyons, is 20% contained at 2.8 acres. Air resources continue to support firefighters on the ground.
