Advocate Nelson Chamisa announced he was leaving the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) on 25 January 2024, accusing Zanu PF of infiltrating and hijacking the party through the abuse of state institutions.
His announcement came amid a deepening crisis in the opposition, including the recall of CCC MPs and councillors by Sengezo Tshabangu, who claimed to be the party’s secretary-general.
In his 13-page statement, Chamisa said: “I will have nothing to do with sewer pond politics.” He also declared: “The original CCC idea has, however, been contaminated, bastardised, hijacked by ZANU-PF through the abuse of State institutions.”
He said there were “fresh things” ahead and promised to keep citizens informed about his next step.
As of 28 October 2026, it has been 1,006 days since Chamisa left the CCC: 143 weeks and 5 days, or 2 years, 9 months and 3 days — just over 33 months.
Since then, he has continued to post motivational messages on social media, leaving many supporters wondering whether a new political movement is coming.
To be clear, every person has the right to choose their own path. Chamisa has put his life at risk in the struggle against this regime, and his choices deserve respect.
But there comes a point when promises must be matched by action. When months turn into years, supporters are entitled to ask where the urgency is.
If you believe the nation is broken and needs fixing, the moment calls for urgency. Zimbabweans need clarity about what comes next—and when.
