If so, why is no one sharing this new skillset? Are we really arguing that agentic development cannot be formalized into a body of knowledge, with principles, techniques and practices that can be taught? If these skills are real, they should be describable. What are they?

I think we too often think of computing as some mature field, where what's popular is due to some kind of engineering merit, rather than what it actually is - fashion downstream from big tech and VC trends.

In a world where LLM coding was actually a game changer, users would notice. They'd say "wow, has anyone noticed how useful, reliable and fast things are these days? They'd aay it about websites, apps, windows, macOS... They do not. Ergo: the princess is in another castle.

I still can't get over the complete lack of impact agentic coding has had on software from a user's perspective. Our industry looks faintly ridiculous for waxing lyrical about the "agentic era" when it's had zero observable impact to the end user.

The more I learn about distributed systems the more I realise how little I know

As a thought experiment, imagine a normalised relational schema where everything not a foreign or primary key was just a JSON blob; a schemaless relational architecture. We can see it's stupid there, but the industry never saw that it was just as stupid to do this with documents.
