Nonblack fans do this with most critically acclaimed or superstar Black acts. Divorce them from the continuum and you don't have to think of them as Black artists.
I think white jazz fans and journalists have a tendency to frame Coltrane's music as cosmic/supernatural to such an extent that it becomes decoupled from the history and politics of Black liberation. (1/2)

I don't necessarily agree cause most of my top rappers didn't use live instrumentation but I think this is a super valid perspective.
Ngl that's the perspective I actually have with R&B lol.
I significantly rate artists who use live instruments in their music much higher over artists who don’t. That’s real musicianship to me & that’s why OutKast is in a whole other field compared to other rappers to ME.

I think OutKast made significantly better music than most rappers, I value live instrumentation & original music over samples, not regions. You made this about regions, I’m talking about music. Clear difference.
