ALT Graphic with a quote from Minister Robbie Butler, which says: Today I am announcing a major expansion of the Northern Ireland Bowel Cancer Screening Programme which will see thousands more people taking part, detecting bowel cancer earlier, improving treatment outcomes and helping to save lives.”
Really important news. @CR_UK@CRUK_Policy would like to see this accelerated with the system brought up to speed to allow this. In the meantime I'll be checking the post for my FIT test in November!
Minister Butler has announced that from November, the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme will begin extending invitations to people aged 59, with 58-year-olds joining the programme from April 2027.

Talking #LongerBetterLives and unacceptable cancer waits with First Minister @little_pengelly at @duponline conference. We've valued the DUP and cross party support on this issue. Less than a third of people in NI begin cancer treatment within 62 days of GP referral.
He's a busy man but we cornered @GRobinsonDUP to talk about our @CRUK_Policy#LongerBetterLivesNI manifesto. We're hoping to see our calls on unacceptable cancer waits and lung/bowel screening reflected in the DUP commitments for the 2027 election.
Encouraging to hear @DianeDoddsMLA want to prioritise 'immoral' cancer waiting times in @duponline manifesto. She emphasised many of our @CRUK_Policy#LongerBetterLivesNI manifesto - lung screening and lowering the age of bowel screening included.
Health Minister Robbie Butler showed his support at the launch of @CR_UK's 'Longer, Better Lives' manifesto for Northern Ireland. 📄
🤝 The Minister is committed to working collaboratively with stakeholders to improve cancer services and outcomes for patients.

Thank you to @MatthewOToole2 for his commitment to tackling unacceptable cancer waiting times - latest stats published yesterday show less than 30% of cancer patients in NI start treatment within 62 days of red flag referral by a GP. #LongerBetterLivesNI
Thank you @mikenesbittni for your leadership, openness and genuine commitment to improving health and social care in Northern Ireland.
You’ve always been willing to listen, engage and have the difficult conversations and the sector has been better for it. 1/2
Say it loud, say it clear, refugees are welcome here. Today the people have come together to say no to violence, to say no burning people out of homes, to say no to all racism. I am proud to be an immigrant, proud to live in Belfast. This is #MyBelfast, the #RealBelfast
Kevin Maguire: "After the attack on the Liverpool football parade & it was a white guy, middle class, former royal marine, no-one went after other white, middle class former marines & set this person represents that entire group"
Great to come together with the NI Cancer Charities Coalition to meet MLAs at Stormont today. We had two burning issues: cancer waiting times and promoting research. Thanks to everyone who stopped for a chat!
What a difference a year makes - Belfast Marathon 2025 and @RCP_NI & community nurses ran to highlight need for an MBU in NI. This week saw @mikenesbittni announcing #MBUNI will open 2028/29. Mothers will hold @niexecutive to account.
Good luck to all mums running today. 🌈🏃♀️🤞
Health Minister @mikenesbittni hopes NI will have a dedicated mother & baby unit up and running "no later than 2028/29". The Minister says a design team will be appointed immediately & confirmed the specialist unit will be based at Belfast City Hospital. #UTV@ActionOnPP
