I built a tool to catch confident wrong answers from hackathon submissions. Then I put a coding agent on each broken build to try to fix it, and the agents turned up 6 confident wrong answers in the tool itself.
Those "build failures" from last week's post were the environment, not their code. Corrected. Everything ran on @flydotio Sprites, agent included.
Here's what the agents fixed, what they tried to get away with, and what else they caught. 🧵

"Does it build?"
It's the one question hackathon judges rarely get to answer, because 60 teams in an afternoon leaves us almost no time with each project, let alone time to run it.
So I ran all 164 submissions from one event, each on its own disposable computer. 69% of them built. A quarter wouldn't have built on any machine but their authors'.
ALT Each project is built on a fresh machine. 'Built' means the build exited 0, nothing more.

I don't know if I've ever enjoyed my job more than that night before that conference when we were all crammed into that hotel room.
I was hand carving a stamp for the back of those stickers b/c we realized they didn't have new relic branding on them (a craft I quite literally learned that day).
Sleeving hundreds...thousands(?) of Magic cards (remind me why again?).
Desperately trying to make the coffee machine work (Dear reader, we never got it to work).
Peak chaos, but such a happy memory.

the hosts said the quiet part out loud. on an open source project, nobody owes you builders. you can't mandate belief, you can't buy it. so when devs show up to build anyway, that's the real read.
selective disclosure isn't a nice-to-have, it's the precondition. private where it needs to be, provable where it counts. that's what the @MidnightNtwrk builders showed up to build.

the thing I want every dev to hear:
you *don't* have to be a ZK expert to build on @midnightntwrk
with Compact, you write normal app logic and the compiler handles the cryptography underneath. if you can build a web app, you can build a private one.
that's the whole idea behind New moon to Full, our builder challenge with @riseinweb3: go from a contract to a real app with real users, one lunar phase at a time.
