Laurna Quirke is one of our Lobular Ireland Group.Last Tuesday Laurna, her husband Gary and their family joined with Women from all over Ireland when we brought our concerns and our National #TellMeMyBreastDensity Campaign to Leinster House with @BreastDense
A Cork woman diagnosed with Breast cancer after two clear mammograms is pleading with the Government for an urgent overhaul of how breast cancer is diagnosed and screened.
Laurna Quirke, says her illness was not detected because she has dense breast tissue, something which affects 43% of women, meaning mammograms are not as effective at spotting cancer.

MRI is Critical for Lobular growth pattern
ILC lacks the protein E-cadherin, causing cancer cells to spread diffusely through fatty tissue without creating a defined lump, making it notoriously "invisible" or subtle on standard mammograms/sometimes Ultrasound
Superior Sensitivity:
MRI utilizes contrast dye to highlight abnormal blood flow associated with this type of web-like cancer growth. It provides a much more accurate map of tumor's size, reducing need for repeat surgeries to achieve clear margins.
Our nationwide 🇧🇪 study of >51000 pts with stage I–III breast cancer (>7500 ILC) is now published in @ESMO_Open
ILC had ⬆️ stage at Dx and a distinct time-dependent prognostic pattern, with worse long-term outcomes as nodal burden increased

Mammography, incl digital tomosynthesis, can drop as low as 10% to 30% in dense breast tissue.8,11–13 Usound is a valuable supplementary tool, demonstrating improved sensitivity, evaluation of dense tissue and palpable abnormalities.
