A man has been shot dead inside a British van smuggling migrants across France. The 47 year old was found with a gunshot wound to the head at a motorway rest stop north of Troyes at 5am on Friday. Around 10 people living in France illegally were found inside the van, which had UK number plates, and several others ran from the scene. 1 suspect has been arrested. Some protests have involved clashes with police, arrests, injuries, fires and damage to property. The unrest is linked primarily to disputes over school conditions, staffing and government spending. The question is whether similar unrest could develop in Britain. The UK has already experienced large demonstrations connected to the migration debate. In September, protests took place in Dover and Portsmouth, including clashes and disruption around ports. That does not mean the French unrest will spread to Britain, and there is currently no evidence establishing that it will. But with tensions over migration, public spending and political issues already producing protests in both countries, it is worth asking: Could Britain see larger demonstrations or disorder in the weeks ahead?
