في عام 2017، كان هناك فريق من الهواة يعمل على مشروع غير رسمي لتطوير ريميك للجزء الثالث بكاميرا خلف الكتف باسم Resident Evil 3 Fan Remake. كابكوم لم تقم بمقاضاتهم فوراً، بل أرسلت لهم "رسالة تحذيرية ودية" تطلب منهم إيقاف المشروع، وطلبت من المطور الرئيسي للفريق إرسال ملفات الكود والتصاميم الأولية التي قاموا ببنائها بحجة "مراجعتها قانونياً". بعد أن حصلت كابكوم على الملفات والأفكار (خصوصاً فكرة تصميم حركة النمسيس وهو يقفز من فوق المباني ليقطع طريق جيل)، قامت الشركة بإلغاء مشروع الهواة، وأخذت كابكوم نفس الأفكار البرمجية وسلمتها لاستوديو M-Two التابع لها لبناء الريميك الرسمي عليها واختصار وقت التطوير!

Seeing the direction Resident Evil is going through is just frustrating sight to behold.
RE4 is a mistake. Without it, there would not be the horrendous ''global bioterror'' slop which resulted in bad sequels like RE5 and RE6, and there wouldnt be the cancer of the leon-cult.
