9/29/26, Executive Order 14433, EPA to write the rulebook for developing and releasing sterilized, genetically modified, and bacteria-treated mosquitoes and ticks, then fast-track the paperwork. D.C. is the pilot, then nationwide.
💰The Gates Foundation and Wellcome have put about $134 million into the World Mosquito Program since 2010. Google’s piece came through Verily, Alphabet’s health and AI arm. Debug used automated sorting to rear and release Wolbachia males in Fresno. Google took the project in December 2024 and has asked EPA for permits to drop tens of millions more over Florida and California.
🦟 Florida already had the trial run. Oxitec released genetically engineered mosquitoes in the Keys from 2021 to 2024. Counties have released Wolbachia mosquitoes since 2017.
☢️ Cases in states that already released them:
•Florida, 2026: hundreds of dengue cases, a local outbreak, emergencies in Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Pasco, plus West Nile and a chikungunya case
•California, 2025: local dengue again, and 117 West Nile cases, 11 fatal
The order does not name a company. It does tell the government to plan more of these releases, including ticks.
‼️If you do not consent to airborne entomological biological experimentation in your state, call your Governor’s office and the Surgeon General.
