Training camp is the one stretch of the NFL calendar where social teams get real access to players. Here's what they actually did with it.
We pulled post-level data for all 32 teams across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, X and Facebook during the 2026 camp window (Jul 15–Aug 25) using the MondoTrends National Football League (NFL) Teams Leaderboard, then looked for the patterns that beat the league average repeatedly — not the one-off viral hits.
1. Lighthearted pranks: +290% engagement lift, cross-platform
The New York Jets' "that's awkward, were you not invited?" bit: 304.5K engagements, 6.74x their TikTok average. Zero football content. All personality.
2. Teammate duos: "Tag your bestie" framing built on real friendships (Cincinnati Bengals leaning on Burrow & Chase, plus Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers versions) cleared 25K+ engagements on formats that cost almost nothing. You can't script chemistry. You notice it.
3. QOTD: +66% lift vs. the league average post
Off-topic pop culture questions grabbed pitch-side while access is highest. The Arizona Cardinals Football Club Soulja Boy moment: 608K views on a 15-second ask.
4. Emotional connection content: +150% lift
Josh Allen's rescue puppy post was the biggest in the dataset: 536.8K engagements, 2.44x the Buffalo Bills TikTok average. No football knowledge required to feel something. 🐶
5. Season firsts
Name the moment, then get out of the way. "
@stefondiggs has arrived 📍" — 120.8K engagements, 4.79x the Washington Commanders' IG average. The shortest caption was the strongest performer.
The thread connecting all five: these are pillars, not ideas. A format with a name and a recurring slot can be measured on its own — so the call on what to keep, kill, or fund next camp is backed by a season of data instead of a hunch.
Nice work by
@MTZLER with the analysis on this one.
