Hey so I have a GENUINE question for all of yall. I have a STRICT boundary where I don’t hang out with coworkers outside of working hours and I DONT make friends with them at all. If they follow me on ANYTHING its an automatic block. I want to know, am I being an asshole on this?

Ight so I SHOULD add more context to this cause I saw some of the responses. 90% of my coworkers like me, I’m respectful to them and I do partake in small talk. I just don’t want to consider them as friends and/or spend time with em OUTSIDE of working hours. Also I meant-

Blocking them on my personal IRL account (They have no idea I’m a streamer). I do this at every job. To ME imo its kinda weird people from a workplace would search me up to find my socials but again this is just MY opinion, I won’t judge you for thinking differently.-

It's not surprising. You have anime for a pfp. We know you're socially awkward.

Is.. is that q cultural thing? Why wouldn't you want to have a positive /friendly relationship with your coworkers? You'll work with them for decades one assumes and isn't it more comfortable to be friends or at least friendly? Genuine question.

This actually caught my attention, let me explain. Is it a cultural thing? Idk nor do I want to find out. For ME personally, 90% of the time my coworkers are almost the same age as my parents or grandparents. I would have NOTHING in common.

I’m guessing this is a “I’m better than you in every way why would I talk to you”

Did you do the same thing with your High School or College classmates. If you have the opportunity to make more friends, then why not make more friends?

Actually, I did! I only needed a few select friends. No more, no less. However I’m NOT disrespectful towards people.

Yeah, you're being dumb. If you treat work as only work, and don't advance socially, they'll never promote you because you don't reflect "work culture."

I never said I didn’t like them. I actually like most of my coworkers. I just don’t consider them as friend and I’ve stated this multiple times before. They actually respected me for saying this despite them constantly asking me to hang out and/or go out to drink

This is a survival mechanism. Coworkers arent your friends and will backstab you at any and every opportunity

Work is miserable, the proclivity to try and make friends to make it more manageable is completely normal. You're not an asshole but you are contributing to toxic work environment to some degree.
