The discussions focused on fostering regional cooperation to accelerate the implementation of the Horn Of Africa Gateway Development Project.

The intervention aims to deworm 113,220 sheep and goats, treat over 1,350 sick animals and vaccinate 44,000 goats against Contagious Caprine Pleuropneumonia (CCPP).

In his remarks, the Governor underscored the transformative power of the Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project as a powerful instrument for inclusion, integration and peace.

We are implementing development programmes across the country to transform lives and confront the challenges facing the people. Our goal is to drive inclusive growth that ensures no Kenyan or region is left behind. Inspected the upgrading of Banissa Water Supply Project, Mandera County, which is expected to connect more than 1,500 households to clean water. The project is 85 per cent complete. Also inspected the 60-unit Banissa Police Housing Project and Banissa Modern Market, which is designed to accommodate more than 200 traders. The market is 90 per cent complete and set to be completed by June 2026.

We are addressing 60 years of neglect of Northern Kenya by accelerating critical infrastructure and initiating government programmes. We have embarked on an ambitious development programme of installing new generators, including nine in Mandera County, to keep the lights on and working with neighbouring Ethiopia to connect the region to the electricity grid. Through the National Infrastructure Fund, Northern Kenya will become the largest target of investments in large-scale irrigation for food production because the region has expansive land and good soils. At the same time, the region needs massive infrastructure development in roads and airports, including the 750km Isiolo-Mandera road that is already under construction. To support education, we are undertaking affirmative action in the region by employing 1,800 local teachers next month, strengthening stability and continuity in learning. The Frontier Counties Development Council (@FCDCKenya ), with support from the (@SwissDevCoop) Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) under the Swiss embassy in Kenya , has delivered 25 submersible borehole motors to support ongoing drought response efforts and restore critical water access for pastoral communities. The FCDC team, led by CPA Abdullah Atosh, Finance & Administration Manager, and LSS Program Officer Mr. Aden Bulle, was warmly received by H.E. Governor @MohamedAKhalif . The meeting was also attended by the County Chief Officers for Water and Livestock, reflecting a shared commitment to sustainable solutions for communities most affected by drought. This intervention is part of FCDC’s Crisis Modifier work, aimed at strengthening resilience, supporting livelihoods, and improving access to reliable water sources across ASAL regions.
