Today we witnessed democracy at work and it was beautiful. South Africa showed many first world countries how it is done. At a national level, Parliament sat and with dignity and decorum elected office bearers. Candidates were nominated and where issues arose, they were reasonably ventilated and contested. In provinces across the country, that process was replicated. Premiers and Speakers were elected. We saw political parties from across the spectrum working together in the interests of getting the government working. The judiciary presided with gravitas and respect. Law enforcement kept close watch and rule of law was maintained. Let’s hope that holds. It is remarkable that the governing party, in power for over three decades, so maturely and willingly transitioned to a Government of National Unity - which in reality is a coalition. We saw the outcome of the elections being accepted by opposition parties even though they didn’t like it or necessarily agree with it. We can never take the peaceful transfer of power from one administration to another for granted. What a privilege to witness this day unfold and help to write the first draft of history for this beautiful country. The road ahead will be turbulent and rocky. But for now, let’s celebrate what we have achieved today South Africa 🇿🇦.

MADLANGA COMMISSION | Adv Thabane Masuku says Oupa Sindane's spiritual seclusion should not attract adverse inference or unnecessary scrutiny, arguing that the Commission should accept his explanation and await his recovery before proceeding.

Sindane's lawyers sought a delay because he "is in a period of sacred spiritual seclusion. This is a constitutively important period of spiritual formation and communal religious observance that is inseparable from his personhood, identity and wellbeing as an African person.."

Deputy National Police Commissioner Major General Shadrack Sibiya has appeared in court and charged with rape, trafficking in persons, promoting the sexual grooming of a child and two counts of sexual grooming of a child. The charges relate to alleged incidents between 16 May and 3 August involving an adult female complainant and a 16-year-old child. The State asked for a seven day postponement. There are also suggestions that there is a cabal assisting Sibiya and there have been attempts to escape. He’ll be held at Kgosi Mampuru prison until his next appearance on 29 September.

BREAKING : Suspended deputy national commissioner Shadrack Sibiya is in the dock. The state and defence are not opposed to the bail application being broadcast with restrictions but that won’t proceed today because of time constraints. The bail hearing will now be heard on the 29th of September. Sibiya will be detained at Kgosi Mampuru prison. No bail granted.

The acting Gauteng Police Commisisoner confirms the body of a woman has been found in Dawn Park on the East Rand. She is believed to be in her 30s, was semi-dressed, had stab wounds and her throat was slit. This brings to 9 the number of women found dead in the area over the past few weeks.
