3/4 Most of the national parks are freaking awesome, but Zion SUXXXXXX. I’m not talking about the scenery; it’s legendary. The park’s absolutely ruined by the crowds though. You have to park literally 5 miles away if you can even find a spot on the side of the road and take a bus. Then you have to wait 30 minutes in a queue to get on a second bus that is ABSOLUTELY packed to the brim in order to get back into the park. Some of the bus drivers are nice, many are rude as f*ck. We had one driver tell everyone to “get the hell off of my bus!” when it arrived back at the visitor center. It’s so bad too that you dare not get off at any stop other than the last one or else you may never fit onto another one! I’m not even going to mention that the educational rangers here are totally disinterested in their jobs and the rangers at the visitor’s center were all trans. Totally a weird vibe there. Everyone was stressed and angry.

4/4 The unpopular parks are BY FAR the best to visit. Seriously just worth it to be away from the foreign tourists, but also super cool and the people that work there are wayyyy friendlier and more knowledgeable. Canyonlands, sunset crater, capitol reef, cedar breaks, glen canyon, lake mead, Death Valley, promontory point… awesome, awesome, awesome! Capital reef even lets you pick apples in the orchards all around the canyon. Freaking awesome!!! You’re never rushed, you can actually get alone and appreciate the scenery… it’s just great at these places. I’m not going to say they’re better than Yellowstone, but def way better than Zion and the Grand Canyon. Death Valley was probably the biggest surprise of the trip. I totally want to go back there someday and spend more time. I forgot I was in California!
