The Washington Commanders selected Ohio State LB Sonny Styles with the 7th overall pick. What does he bring to Washington?
-Physical run defense

Spent some time over the Commanders bye week watching second year RT Josh Conerly Jr. to see where he's at in his development. Full breakdown: markbullock.substack.com/p/c…
The Commanders wanted to be under center more this season. That hasn't been working that well. @MarkBullockNFL and @nick_akridge break down the film to show why and what can be done to fix it:

he’s not processing quickly, quite the opposite, he has to see his receiver get open before he will throw - and he doesn’t read defenses that well - but he is very accurate when he does throw and he refuses to throw interceptions almost as much as Wilt refused to get 6 fouls l

The Commanders spent the whole offseason talking about getting under center more, but through six games they've not been able to get much production from those looks. I broke down their struggles: markbullock.substack.com/p/c…
No new film after the bye week so @MarkBullockNFL and @nick_akridge focused on the discussion around Jayden Daniels play this season and broke down their thoughts with film:

How do teams position themselves in a huddle?
Using player tracking data, here’s a look at the median position for each player in a huddle for each team’s most common offensive lineup.
The Commanders have been blitzing a lot under new DC Daronte Jones, but those blitzes haven't always translated into pressure and sacks. I spent the bye week looking into what has and hasn't worked for the Commanders pass rush: markbullock.substack.com/p/c…
Nick and I broke down the defensive performance from Monday night, which had a little extra layer of intrigue given the news of Wilks being involved in the game plan
Time to look at the defense. @MarkBullockNFL and @nick_akridge break down the biggest plays from Monday Night and try to explain the difference in performances from each half.

Interesting that he started last week. Commanders came out noticeably less aggressive early on vs San Fran, playing more mixed zone coverages with 4 man rushes. Didn't work so they went back to blitzing
The #Commanders have hired Steve Wilks to work with the defensive coaches under Dan Quinn and Daronte Jones, per me and @RapSheet. The decision to hire Wilks was made last month. He started last week.
Wilks will help with game planning. He won't be with the team on game days.
Sonny Styles is improving every week. This coverage play is one that very few other LBs can make. The range to cover the ground, the awareness to know where the danger is, the length to get his hand in to the catch point and knock the ball out. Incredible play
From the most recent video: @MarkBullockNFL and @nick_akridge break down the potential missed touchdown to Antonio Williams and how it's not as simple as this guy is open and Jayden missed it
I felt Jayden Daniels had a up and down performance against the 49ers last night. There were plenty of good plays, but also quite a few that fell below the high standard he's capable of hitting. I broke down his overall performance: markbullock.substack.com/p/c…
