Factors to consider.
- Firstly do we get a true SSW? (likely!)
- type?
- where?
- does it feed into troposhere?
- where is the blocking?
- how much cold is available?

Like most, I have to say I didn't see this as a possibility next 30-40 days!
1) 'High possibility' of a record early SSW
2) Such strong high latitude blocking
3) A potential late autumn/early winter cold spell
4) Cool/dry Nov?
Note block OVER UK!

Incredibly close to UK October MSLP record with 948.1 hPa at Stornoway at 22Z Saturday, but just slightly north of the centre of #Boelo. It's likely a lower MSLP value would have been recorded had there been an observation station farther south on Harris.
As Storm #Boelo tracks across N/NW Scotland on Sat night, its central pressure is likely to be 946-949 hPa.
The current UK Oct low MSLP record is 947.9 hPa (Storm Amy 2025). There's a chance we could beat this... just one week after near-record high MSLP

We know the mean zonal wind at 10hpa is about to significantly weaken but is that a split I see in the vortex??
I suspect effects will be little to non and if anything a rapid rebound and eventual highly active Atlantic pattern will drive our early winter setup!

Appears #StormBoelo at it's peak could'nt have been any closer to tying the UK October record set during Storm Amy last year.
According to Meteociel, Stornoway measured 948mb late last night but curious if there are any sites lower? @danholley_ @RoostWeather @metoffice

As #StormBoelo pulls away and pressure rises, we're seeing some big gusts (80+ Stornoway, 123 mph over Cairngorm) out of the NW.
Fair amount of damage with road and bridge closures.
