Sony finally fixing its Spider-Verse after DC’s latest win
Spider-Man’s villains often feel like local crooks who can never reach the iconic level of Batman’s foes. Sony has failed for years, but DC might have cracked the formula with a B-tier villain.
Clayface debuted at #1 at the box office, and now Sony reportedly wants to revive its Spider-Man villain universe, starting with Black Cat, aka Felicia Hardy.
The plan is to introduce her in live action outside the MCU and test audience reactions before teaming her up with Tom Holland's Spider-Man.
Sony doesn't want to risk its most reliable franchise, especially after Morbius, Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter failed to deliver.
Meanwhile, DC is proving that even lesser-known villains can work. Clayface is an R-rated body horror film that's winning over critics and making a strong start.
The lesson is simple: villain movies can work if you have the right vision, genre and execution.
Sony just needs to learn that lesson before giving us another terrible Spider-Man villain movie.
