Today, we celebrate how far we have come, but we must also be honest about how far we still have to go. What does independence mean if our people do not feel free, if citizens are afraid to return home, and if many feel they must leave their country to find hope and opportunity? Independence must be more than a date in our history; it must be a reality in the lives of our people. Let us build a Uganda where the Constitution is respected, every citizen feels safe and valued, and no one feels like a stranger in their own homeland. May we build a country that loves its people as much as its people love their country. Happy Independence Day!

I met with local fishermen and heard firsthand how vague regulations leave them at the mercy of heavy-handed enforcement and extortion. I have presented these issues directly to the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries. We need clear, statutory guidelines to protect our fishing communities and ensure accountability. #NUP #PeoplePower

No one should have to buy back their own seized equipment just to survive. Vague fishing regulations leave the door wide open for heavy-handed enforcement and extortion. We need clear, statutory guidelines on handling offenses. Courtesy: NTV Uganda #UgandaFisheries #PeoplePower #NUP

Today, I had the honor of stepping in for my Leader of the Opposition, Hon. @JoelSsenyonyi , to speak at the 4th National Youth Symposium. Our message was simple: young people can’t just be invited to the room to make up numbers, we need a real seat at the table when decisions and budgets are being made. If we want better services in our communities, we have to give young people the tools, data, and safe spaces to hold leaders accountable without fear. The future of Uganda isn't something we wait for; it’s what we build and demand today. #NationalYouthSymposium26 #NUP #PeoplePower

There is no background that is not destined for success... As long as you have that vision, there is a reason why it is with you. Get started with it; the rest will find you on the way. #NUP #PeoplePower

Yesterday in Munyonyo, I joined fellow Shadow Cabinet ministers of the 12th Parliament for a two-day induction workshop on effective parliamentary scrutiny and alternative policy development. We believe effective oversight begins with informed and prepared leadership. #NUP #PeoplePower

Earlier today, I attended the Leadership Beyond the Ballot Symposium at Makerere University’s Health Sciences Auditorium. The symposium brought together newly elected youth leaders, experienced leaders and key stakeholders for an intergenerational conversation on leadership, governance and public service. What stood out was the focus on mentorship, shared experiences and the responsibility that comes with public leadership. This was a timely reminder that the real work begins after the mandate.

Earlier today, fellow Shadow Cabinet members and I, accompanied the Leader of the Opposition, Joel Ssenyonyi on an oversight visit to Lubowa Specialised Hospital, only to be denied access despite a directive from the Ministry of Health. With UGX 1.5 trillion in taxpayers’ money invested in the project, Ugandans deserve answers. Accountability is not optional. #KeepingTheGovtInCheck

A good time with the boys. We’ve all grown, but every reunion feels like no time has passed at all. We continue to motivate, anchor, and push each other forward.

Day 2 of our oversight visit found us in Mbale, where we visited Nabumali High School and the neighbouring Health Centre III. Both are struggling with unreliable water, affecting learning, healthcare and daily operations. We have called on the Ministry of Water and Environment for a lasting solution and to find ways of extending water supply to neighbouring communities, particularly Nabumali Health Centre III, which relies on a borehole that breaks down frequently. #NUP #PeoplePower
