Dickson,
I actually learnt you studied law which you don’t practise. Perhaps, the reason why you allowed such a sensational headline by Sahara Reporters to becloud your sense of reasoning, preventing you to know that Agbero is a legitimate job guaranteed by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, just as your profession — the one you abandoned for social media validation.
Now to the point: you referenced a Sahara Reporters’ sensational headline as the premise for your deliberate misrepresentation of Dr. Obafemi Hamzat’s 2020 statement on why no government in a democratic Nigeria, including the government of your home state of Delta, can ban Agbero.
Dr Hamzat’s statement about Agbero was accurate and remains so till date. If you are in doubt, we can actually test the legal grounds of Dr. Hamzat’s claim from your home state or Abia State to see if the court would uphold such impunity.
Agbero is a pseudonym for members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), a legally established trade union that enjoys the same rights and legitimacy as other organisations like the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
It is surprising that a so-called lawyer would expect the government to ban Agbero, a duly registered association. It speaks about the level of your knowledge of law which they said you studied.
The post you quoted obviously referred to common street touts, who take advantage of such situation to extort money from people. They couldn’t have been Agbero because you will never see Agbero harassing non-commercial motorists. Agbero is not the same as ‘street boys’.
For anyone who cares to read Dr. Hamzat’s true statement on Agbero, which Sahara Reporters sensationalised, here are the excerpts from the same Sahara Reporters 👇🏽👇🏽
