Dead Space Is Dead. Energy shouldn't dictate form. We 3D print batteries that conform to your design — not the other way around.

Miami, FL
The @HarpoonVentures team has been an awesome addition to our cap table since co-leading our seed round. If you are serious about building technologies that support and defend the interests of the United States, you are going to want to have them on your cap table too!
We are excited to announce Fund IV! $155m to invest in critical technologies for the United States and our allies. On America’s 250th and always, we are here for the founders building for America’s next 50 or 100 years. Patriots in control! 🇺🇸🫡

Energy storage is getting a real overhaul, and at @myelinvc we’re proud investors in @Material_HM. They make batteries a design enabler: shape the cell to match the product, not the product to match the cell. Can’t wait to see what can be built when batteries stop being the constraint that defines the device and engineers get a better, faster, denser option in their toolkit.
MATERIAL has raised a $7.1M Seed round and is executing a $1.25M Phase II SBIR contract with the U.S. Air Force to rethink how energy is made. For too long, product design has been dictated by the battery. MATERIAL is making energy adaptable to the product, unlocking new freedom in performance, endurance, and design. This is just the beginning. Press Release: material.inc/material-unleas…

.@Material_HM announced it had raised a $7.1M seed round. The company is taking aim at a surprisingly persistent problem: Batteries power nearly everything we write about, yet they’re rarely designed for the platforms they actually serve—like drones. tectonicdefense.com/3d-print…

So... we’re focused on a simple idea: stop treating batteries as a fixed constraint and rethink HOW energy is manufactured and integrated into real systems. I greatly enjoyed talking to @barratt_dewey about how this approach is taking off in defense and UAS applications. Thx Tectonic Worth a read: tectonicdefense.com/3d-print…

When I was a kid I loved sci-fi; worlds where manufacturing was instant, precise, and limitless. Star Trek, Fifth Element, etc... What felt impossible then is now achievable. At MATERIAL, we’re building that future by reinventing how batteries are made through through advanced manufacturing.🔋

Control panels power factories, refineries, and treatment plants. They also power R&D labs building the next breakthrough. We shipped one to @material_HM, a startup 3D printing batteries to dramatically increase energy density.

I think it's wild how deep the denial runs when it comes to batteries. People don’t realize how fragile the current state of battery tech really is—and how much of it is built on dependency, not innovation. (a thread on commercial battery)

We had alternatives. We still have alternatives. But instead of investing in the future, we became obsessed with monopolizing supply and chasing the illusion of “cheap.”

@Material_HM's 3D-printed battery development continues with our 523 LMNC cathode, representing the 3rd unique battery chemistry printed this year. The 523 LMNC cathode shown is fabricated with our Beta 2.0 HYBRID3D manufacturing system that integrates FDM and Nanocomposite extrusion with a low-power DMLS process. Our specialized method allows for precise control of the microstructure and performance. This innovation eliminates the current collectors, resulting in freestanding cathodes. Initial test data suggest good electrochemical performance. The smooth voltage profile and substantial capacity utilization indicate the effectiveness of our method. The end-of-charge voltage fluctuations are likely attributed to the formation of the SEI layer on the lithium anode, and have already been rectified. materialx.co
